Long day

So today I worked from 7.30 am to 9.15 pm, with about a 15minute break for lunch. Normally – I wouldn’t care so much – but today I am a little upset because these really long days seem to have become standard operating procedure.

Everybody is working so hard and working such long days at the moment, it’s not just me – but I can really see it taking its toll on everybody, and by default – eventually it will have to effect the company.

The only reason I am really upset about this is that we have been asking for more resources, first the response was do a detailed description of why you need them, and what they would need to do – so we did, right down to an hour by hour planner of their week over a three month period.

Then we were told that was fine, but it was just too expensive to hire somebody new. So I got somebody not so expensive, and showed that by moving a lot of the work that contractors do to this person, we would cover their cost in about six months.

Then it was another excuse (sorry, I gave up remembering here – it has just gotten so lame)…

But it culminated today in me getting into trouble for not prioritising my work correctly and getting side-tracked by trivial things.

Unfortunatly, the trivial things side tracking me – are critical to the business also. It would be great if I could palm it off to somebody else and not worry about it – but there just isn’t any body to do that to – we are all under a great deal of workload and stress at the moment.

Anyway – what I am trying to say here is that I feel I am really being disrespected. I work fucking hard for these guys, I feel that I have pretty much jumped through every reasonable hoop that they want me to regarding an additional staffer, and now they are just being stupid about it.

Every day I am getting closer and closer to showing managment exactly where they can shove my job, their company, and anything else I feel fit at the time.

I think there are some huge risks that we are taking by leaving some teams dangerously under-staffed. At some point in time, in the very near future, somebody is going to miss something because they are dealing with 4 other vitally important things – and right then, the band-aid’s will fall off – and we will end up with a serious issue on our hands, that may or may not be able to be resolved.

Another amazingly annoying thing about all this is that we currently have a head count freeze. We can’t add staff because the board, in it’s inifinate wisdom, say so. But, we just hired two ex-politicians Wayne Goss and Neville Wran.

I am sure Wayne and Neville are not doing it for love, and I am equally sure that the money / shares we are paying these guys would more then cover the nescasary additional staff that we need.

We have no problem with the sales pipeline, we don’t need more contacts (at the moment) to get bigger deals – we can’t look after the stuff we have now.

Fuck, I hope somebody wakes up to themselvs soon!
